National Black Brewers Day

October 10

Join us in celebrating National Black Brewers Day (NBBD) on Friday, October 10!

We are extremely proud to be a part of this community. Rodney Hines, along with other Black brewers and brewery owners across the U.S., worked together to make this day a national holiday. A year ago, we joined forces with 23rd Ave Brewery (the two Black-owned breweries in Washington state) and came together with fellow brewers to receive the National Black Brewers Day proclamation at the Seattle City Council.

This year, we raise a pint in honor of 23rd Ave Brewery as they close their doors after three incredible years showcasing the rich contributions and diverse talents of Black brewers in the craft beer industry. We will miss them dearly and dedicate our annual NBBD brew, “We Got Y’all,” to our Brothers in beer at 23rd: Mario, James, and David. THANK YOU! 🍻

We Got Y’all Fonio Pilsner5.4% ABV 35 IBUA crisp, quaffable Pilsner with a noticeable noble hoppy flavor. Brewed with Fonio, a climate-resilient grain from West Africa. Along with its potential ecological benefits, Fonio provides a subtle white-wine note to beer.

Some of you may be wondering, why October 10? Well, on October 10, 1970, Theodore A. (Ted) Mack, Sr. and his business associates celebrated the purchase of Peoples Brewing Company in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with over 2,000 guests, including stockholders, local and state legislators, and notable dignitaries. On this day, Mr. Mack became the first Black brewery president in the United States, and Peoples Brewing Company became the first Black-owned brewery in U.S. history.
