About Metier Brewing Company

At MBC, our beers are outstanding, and our mission stands out.

MBC is all about strengthening community and creating a welcoming gathering space for families, friends, and those who appreciate exceptional beer.

Great beer should be for everyone, and we don’t mean just the people drinking it. At MBC, we brew beer with everybody in mind: the suppliers who produce our ingredients, the brewers who craft award-winning recipes, the knowledgeable staff who serve our pints, and you, the members of our community.

Our MBC Team

Influenced by tradition, not bound by it

As beer enthusiasts, the MBC team is influenced by tradition, but not bound by it. We experiment with brews that are innovative and accessible. With our commitment to craft, we brew with intention and integrity, and we never compromise.

We are proud to be one of the few Black-owned breweries in the country. But we want to help build an industry where that’s no longer a novelty. At MBC, we’re expanding what craft beer has traditionally represented — from our suppliers to the artwork on our beer labels to the team serving up pints to the community of beer lovers.

MBC’s mission is born of co-founders, Rodney Hines and Todd Herriott’s shared passion for great beer and spirited community.

Rodney Hines, CEO

Rodney Hines

Rodney Hines is CEO for Metier Brewing Company. Prior to MBC, Rodney served as the director of social impact for U.S. operations at Starbucks. His work supporting diverse, low-income communities earned him a spot on Fast Company’s list of 100 Most Creative People in Business 2017. Currently a board member for PCC Natural Markets, Rodney is also a member of the Community Advisory Council for the Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle University Youth Initiative Advisory Board.

Todd Herriott, Co-Founder

Todd Herriott

At Metier Seattle in Capitol Hill, Todd has built a one of kind experience for cyclists at every level of the sport — a premium bicycle shop, training space and community hub steeped in the rich culture of cycling. Metier Racing & Coffee and Metier Brewing Company are separate businesses sharing values and, of course,  Todd.

  • We found a new regular drink spot! Wanted to check out some Black owned breweries in this area. Really great vibes and cool to see how this brewery has integrated itself into the community. Will definitely be back.

Where Everyone is Welcome

Our Community

As one of the few Black-owned breweries in the country, we know representation matters. That’s why we are proud to operate our flagship taproom in the Central District, one of Seattle's historic Black neighborhoods. But our commitment to community does not stop there. At all of our locations—including the kid-pet-and-event-friendly taproom in Woodinville and our one-of-a-kind brewpub partnership in SODO honoring the Negro league baseball league—we partner with vendors and charities and artists we know share our goal of building a craft beer space where everyone feels welcome.

We hope MBC inspires others to always consider who is not in the room, at the table, or behind the bar. At MBC, we are trying to play our part in growing a nurturing and inclusive craft beer community. On the outside, MBC stands for Metier Brewing Company. But in our hearts, our work is animated by a different trio of words: My Beloved Community.
